It is known that for every uncountable family \(\{X_{\alpha}\}_{\alpha\in A}\) of \(n\)-dimensional closed subsets of an \(n\)-dimensional ANR-compactum, there are distinct indices \(\alpha,\beta\in A\) such that \(\dim(X_{\alpha}\cap X_{\beta})=n\). This theorem was established by \textit{K.~Borsuk} [Bull. Acad. Pol. Sci., Ser. Sci. Math. Astron. Phys. 9, 685--687 (1961; Zbl 0108.35606)] and \textit{K.~Sieklucki} [ibid. 10, 433--436 (1962; Zbl 0119.38301); correction, ibid. 12, 695 (1964)]. The authors provide a version of this theorem in which the covering dimension is replaced by the cohomological dimension \(\dim_R\), where \(R\) is a principal ideal domain with unity. Note that a compactum \(X\) is said to be \(\text{clc}^n_R\), if it is cohomology locally \(k\)-connected with respect to \(R\) for all \(k\leq n\). Here the last property means that for each point \(x\in X\) and neighborhood \(N\) of \(x\), there is a neighborhood \(M\subset N\) of \(x\) such that the homomorphism \(i^{k}_{M,N}:H^k(N;R)\to H^k(M;R)\), induced on the \(k\)-dimensional reduced Čech cohomology groups by the inclusion \(i_{M,N}:M\to N\), is trivial. Precisely, the authors show that for every uncountable family \(\{X_{\alpha}\}_{\alpha\in A}\) of closed subsets of a \(\text{clc}^n_R\)-compactum \(X\), where \(n\geq 1\), if \(\dim_RX=n\) and \(\dim_RX_{\alpha}=n\) for all \(\alpha \in A\), then \(\dim_R(X_{\alpha}\cap X_{\beta})=n\) for some \(\alpha\neq \beta\). As applications of this theorem the authors investigate the equality of cohomological dimension and strong cohomological dimension [introduced by \textit{Y.~Kodama} in the appendix to the book of \textit{K.~Nagami}, Dimension theory. With an appendix by Yukihiro Kodama (1970; Zbl 0224.54060)], and give a characterization of cohomological dimension in terms of a special base. Furthermore, the authors discuss the relation between cohomological dimension and dimension of cohomologically locally connected compacta.
