The subject of this paper is the perturbed Gelfand equation \[ -\Delta u=\lambda f(u) \in\Omega,\qquad u=0 \in\partial\Omega, \] where \(\Omega=\{x\in{\mathbb R^n}\mid |x|<1\}\) and \(f(u)=\exp{u\over 1+\varepsilon u}\). The radially symmetric solution satisfies a second-order ordinary differential equation on the interval \((0,1)\) with homogeneous boundary conditions. In order to verify if the solution \(u\) posseses turning points, authors define a numerical method, based on interpolation using ``hat functions'' on the uniform partition of the interval \((0,1)\). The numerical procedure is described in details, and corresponding theorems on existence and smoothness are proven. A numerical examples is enclosed.
