As the main question, the author investigates for several classes of continuous operators \(f\) in a Banach space relations between \(\text{Deg(id}- f)\neq 0\) and \(\text{id}-f\) being a \(0\)-epi map. In Proposition 4.2 it is proved by using a homotopy argument that for \(f\) weakly stably admissible \(\text{Deg(id} -f)\neq 0\) implies \(\text{id}-f\) is \(0\)-epi. The converse, which is the object of this paper, is more difficult and requires further conditions. This is proved in Corollary 4.1, Theorem 4.2 and Theorem 4.3. In 4.1 and 4.2, \(f\) is properly stably admissible acting on a Jordan domain and fulfills further conditions. In 4.3, \(f\) is on a Jordan domain \(\Omega\) with \(f(x)\in x\) on \(\partial\Omega\) countably \(k\)-condensing with respect to an arbitrary measure of noncompactness with \(k=\tfrac 12\). Relations between the investigated classses of operators are studied and for this the author gets in Theorem 4.3 the result, that for \(f\) with \(f(x)\neq x\) on \(\partial\Omega\) and countably \(\tfrac 12\)-condensing on a Jordan domain \(\Omega\), \(\text{Deg(id}-f) \neq 0\) holds if and only if \(f\) is \(0\)-epi. This result is a contradiction to an example of \textit{Z. Ding} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 199, 458-468 (1996; Zbl 0856.47030)], and the author shows here that some inequalities required in this example cannot be satisfied simultaneously. For further results of the type discussed above, see \textit{E. Giorgieri} and \textit{M. Väth} [J. Func. Anal. 187, 183-199 (2001; Zbl 1021.47027)].
