This detailed paper considers the objection made by Lorentz to the Uhlenbeck-Goudsmit proposal of a spin magnetic moment of the electron, that the electron's equatorial rotation speed would exceed the speed of light by a factor of the order 10. This in turn resulted in an objection to Lorentz electrodynamics (LED) itself when the spin magnetic moment became established. The paper shows that renormalization treated properly does lead to a mathematically consistent and physically viable LED. The renormalized limit model is shown to match the empirical electron data as well as can be expected at the level of Lorentz theory and, in particular, that no equatorial speeds in excess of the velocity of light occur.
