The paper under review concerns common invariant subspaces for sets of operators which are finitely quasinilpotent at some vector. A set \({\mathcal C}\) of bounded linear operators on a Banach space \(X\) is said to be finitely quasinilpotent at \(x_0\in X\) if for every finite subset \({\mathcal F}\) of \({\mathcal C}\) one has \[ \limsup_{n\to\infty}\bigl(\sup_{T_1,\ldots,T_n\in{\mathcal F}} |T_1\cdots T_nx_0|\bigr)^{1/n}=0. \] Theorem 3.3 in the paper says that, if a set \({\mathcal C}\) of operators on \(X\) is finitely quasinilpotent at some non-vector and \({\mathcal C}\) contains a non-zero compact operator, then there exists a nontrivial subspace of \(X\) which is invariant to each operator belonging either to \({\mathcal C}\) or to the commutant of \({\mathcal C}\). Theorem 3.5 in the paper asserts the same fact in the case when \({\mathcal C}\) (\(\neq\{0\}\)) is finitely quasinilpotent at some non-zero vector and there exists a non-zero compact operator in the commutant of \({\mathcal C}\). The proof of Theorem 3.3 is based on Hilden's ``ping-pong'' method of proof of the celebrated Lomonosov's invariant subspace theorem, exposed by \textit{A. J. Michaels} [Adv. Math. 25, 56-58 (1977; Zbl 0356.47003)]. The last part of the paper under review includes versions of the above described results for sets of positive operators on Banach lattices. In particular, one extends a famous theorem of \textit{B. de Pagter} [Math. Z. 192, 149-153 (1986; Zbl 0607.47033)].
