In this paper a class of operators on nilpotent Lie groups \(G\) given by convolution with flag kernels is studied. These are special kinds of product-type distributions whose singularities are supported on a flag NEWLINE\[NEWLINE(0) \subset V_1\subset\cdots\subset V_k\subset\cdots \subset G.NEWLINE\]NEWLINE They show that product-type kernels can be written as finite sums of flag kernels and that flag kernels can be characterized in terms of their Fourier transforms, and that flag kernels have good \(L^p\) regularity, restriction, and composition properties.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThese results are applied to various problems arising in complex analysis. In particular, they obtain LP regularity for certain second derivatives of the relative fundamental solutions of Kohn-Laplacian operators \(\square_b\) and for the corresponding Szegő projections onto the null space of \(\square_b\) by showing that distribution kernels of the \(\square_b\)-complex on certain quadratic CR submanifolds of \(\mathbb{C}^n\) are finite sums of flag kernels.
