Let \(G\) be a bounded strongly pseudoconvex domain in \(\mathbb{C}^n\) with \(C^2\)-boundary. First, the author recalls the notion of the Carathéodory or Kobayashi metric on \(G\) and then gives the asymptotic behaviour of these metrics near boundary points of \(G\), which generalizes a result of \textit{I. Graham} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 207, 219-240 (1975; Zbl 0305.32011)]. Next, the author recalls for a boundary point of \(G\) the notion of exponentially flat type of order \(m\) and the notions of central, intermediate and extreme tangential streams, a stream being a \(C^\infty\) curve \(q:(0, \varepsilon)\to G\) with \(\lim_{t\to +0}q(t)= p\in\partial G\). The author finally gives the asymptotic behavior of the Kobayashi metric along a stream approaching an exponentially flat boundary point of \(G\), according as the stream is central, intermediate or extreme-tangential.
