The paper is concerned with the following system of ordinary differential equations: \[ \left( \frac{mj^{2}}{n}+ P(n,T)\right)_{x}= -qnE - \frac{mj}{\tau_{p}} , \tag{1} \] \[ ( a ( n,T)T_{x})_{x}= qjE + \frac{w-w_{0}}{\tau_{w}} + \left( \frac{mj^{3}}{2n^{2}}+ \frac{5}{2} jT \right)_{x} , \tag{2} \] \[ E_{x}= -\frac{q}{\varepsilon_{s}}(n-C(x)) \tag{3} \] in the interval (0,1), where \(n\) (= electron density), \(T\) (= electron temperature,) and \(E\) (= electric field) are the unknown functions. These functions are subject to the boundary conditions \[ n(0)=n_{0} ,\quad T(0)=T_{0} ,\quad T(1)=T_{1} , \quad E(0)=E_{0} . \tag{4} \] Under certain regularity assumptions on the functions \(P=P(n,T)\), \(a=a(n,T)\), and \(w=w_{0}+\tau_{w}\widetilde{w}(n,T-T_{L})\) as well as appropriate smallness conditions, the authors prove the existence of a classical solution \((n,T,E)\) to (1)--(4). The method of proof is based on a reformulation of (1) and the Schauder fixed point theorem. If \(a=\text{const}\), the authors prove the existence and uniqueness of a classical solution to (1)--(4).
