This extensive work is devoted to an algebraic classification of all supersymmetric domain wall solutions of maximal gauged supergravity in \(D=4,7\) in presence of non-trivial scalar in the coset \(\text{SL}(D+1, \mathbb{R})/\text{SO}(D)\). It generalizes results of the previous work by two of the present authors [\textit{I. Bakas} and \textit{K. Sfetsos}, Nucl. Phys B 573, 768-810 (2000; Zbl 0953.83086)] concerning the similar problem in \(D=5\). NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe authors begin with the gauged supergravity and first-order equations, and the construction of the most general solution of the arising system of non-linear equations in arbitrary dimension. Then the spectrum of fluctuations and the connection of the problem to the supersymmetric quantum mechanics is discussed. The algebraic classification of solutions is obtained via the Christoffel-Schwarz transformation associated with the uniformization of Riemann surfaces. In two sections the distributions of M2-branes and M5-branes are described. The paper closes with comments on Lamé equations and general conclusions.
