Ideal completions and compactifications (Q5938997)

The author establishes several concrete isomorphisms between certain categories of (a) ordered sets, (b) quasi-uniform spaces, and (c) topological spaces. These isomorphisms enable him to unveil interesting connections between various types of ideal completions. In particular, Cauchy ideal completions can be interpreted quite naturally as uniform completions and as compactifications; they can be viewed in quite different settings as epireflections. A central concept of the paper is that of a dense core-generated space; where a core of a point in a topological space is the intersection of its neighbourhoods.
