    The theory of submanifolds in Finslerian manifolds is thought of as starting with the work by \textit{H. Rund} [Math. Z. 56, 363--375 (1952; Zbl 0047.41101); ibid. 57, 193--210 (1953; Zbl 0052.39102); Can. J. Math. 8, 487--503 (1956; Zbl 0074.17203)] (there are a few earlier more modest contributions, e.g. due to \textit{M. Haimovici} [Atti Accad. Naz. Lincei, Rend. (6) 27, 633--641 (1938; Zbl 0020.07203)] and \textit{E. T. Davies} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (2) 49, 19--39 (1947; Zbl 0032.42901)]). The modern contributions to the subject begin with the work by \textit{H. Akbar-Zadeh} [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. A 266, 146--148 (1968; Zbl 0153.51602)], \textit{G. M. Brown} [Can. J. Math. 20, 1025--1036 (1968; Zbl 0179.27001)] and \textit{J. Grifone} [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. A 282, 599--602 (1976; Zbl 0328.53015)] and the body of research is at present rather ample [\textit{M. Matsumoto}, J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 25, 107--144 (1985; Zbl 0567.53025); \textit{L. M. Abatangelo}, \textit{S. Dragomir} and \textit{S. Hojo}, Tensor, New Ser. 47, 272--285 (1988; Zbl 0692.53011); cf. also \textit{M. Matsumoto}, Foundations of Finsler geometry and special Finsler spaces, Kaiseisha Press, Kyoto (1986; Zbl 0594.53001)]. The authors try to discuss the geometry of the second fundamental form of a real hypersurface in a Finslerian manifold endowed with the special Finsler metric \(L(x, y)= a(x, y)^2/(\alpha(x, y)- \beta(x, y))\), where \(a(x, y)^2= a_{ij}(x) y^i y^j\) is the energy associated with a given Riemannian metric, and \(\beta(x, y)= b_i(x)y^i\), for a given 1-form \(b_i(x) dx^i\). \{Reviewer's remarks: Aside from the work by M. Matsumoto (cf. op. cit.) the authors seem to ignore the literature on submanifolds of a Finslerian manifold. It is also deluding that the authors speak \textit{tout court} about the \textit{induced Cartan connection}, because notoriously the induced and intrinsic Cartan connections of the given submanifold do no coincide (do they concide in the case at hand? and why?), this being one of the main difficulties in developing the theory in analogy with Riemannian geometry.\}
