Let \(\beta\) be a real number greater than 1. The expansion of \(x>0\) by the series \(\sum _{-\infty < k \leq N} a_k \beta^{k},\) where \(a_k\) are all nonnegative integers \(\leq \beta,\) is called a \(\beta\)-greedy expansion if \(\sum _{k < M} a_k \beta^k < \beta^M\) for every \(M \leq N.\) Let \({\mathbb F}(\beta)\) be the set of all elements in \({\mathbb Q}(\beta)\) which have finite greedy expansion in base \(\beta,\) i.e. \(a_k=0\) for all but finitely many \(k.\) S. Akiyama studied the Pisot numbers \(\beta\) for which the set \({\mathbb F}(\beta)\) and the set of all nonnegative elements in the ring \({\mathbb Z}[\beta^{-1}]\) coincide. The present author shows that so, in particular, is the real root \(\beta\) of \(\beta^3-\beta^2-1=0.\) She also investigates other properties of the \(\beta\)-greedy expansion, where \(\beta\) is the number of the title. The paper contains a lot of computations.
