The main result of the paper is the following: if \(V(x)=y^T(x) By(x)\) with \(B>0\) then \(V(x)\) is positive definite for all \(x\) such that \(y(x)\) is real and \(y(x)\neq 0\) unless \(x=0\). Several examples are given and possible applications are suggested.
