The authors extend previous studies concerning the mode I loading to the mixed-mode loading corresponding to deviatoric transformation strain. Asymptotic and full solutions are obtained for semi-infinite plane crack and plane strain. The shape and size in both static and steady advanced craked materials are given together with the transformation strain. Using the Eshelby inclusion and weight function methods, the authors analyse the transformation of fracture tougheness. The adopted constitutive Sun-Hwang model accounts for effects of internal stress, boundary displacements and interface friction during transformation and reorientation. Two-dimensional weight functions are obtained by means of the reciprocity theorem. Diagrams furnish start and finish zonal borders for static crack and different phase angles, the crack tip stress versus phase angles, the absolute extreme angles versus phase angles, and finally the crack tip stress and energy release versus remote phase angle. The charateristic features of involved processes are detailed being of relevant interest for the toughening mechanism.
