The aim of the paper is to use \(\mathbb{Z}\)-permutation forms or root systems to describe inversions, inversion tables and minimal left coset representatives for the finite and affine Weyl groups of classical type. The \(\mathbb{Z}\)-permutation form was first introduced by \textit{G. Lusztig} for the affine Weyl group \(\widetilde A_{n-1}\) [in Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 277, 623-653 (1983; Zbl 0526.22015)]. Then \textit{R. Bédard} introduced a \(\mathbb{Z}\)-permutation form to describe the affine Weyl group \(\widetilde C_3\) [in Commun. Algebra 14, 1253-1286 (1986; Zbl 0608.20037)]. The present \(\mathbb{Z}\)-permutation form for the affine Weyl group \(\widetilde C_n\) was introduced by \textit{J.-y. Shi} [in J. Algebra 163, No. 1, 235-257 (1994; Zbl 0818.20047)] which modified the one by Bédard. Then \textit{J.-y. Shi} [in Group theory in China. Math. Appl. Dordrecht 365, 130-148 (1996; Zbl 0871.20036)] and \textit{H. Eriksson} and \textit{K. Eriksson} [in Electron. J. Comb. 5, No. 1, Research paper R18 (1998; Zbl 0889.20002)] introduced the \(\mathbb{Z}\)-permutation forms for the affine Weyl groups \(\widetilde B_n\) and \(\widetilde D_n\) independently. On the other hand, the inversion tables for the affine Weyl groups of classical type were given in terms of \(\mathbb{Z}\)-permutations by \textit{J.-y. Shi} [in The Kazhdan-Lusztig cells in certain affine Weyl groups, Lect. Notes Math. 1179, Springer-Verlag (1986; Zbl 0582.20030); J. Algebra 221, No. 1, 360-383 (1999; Zbl 0946.20019)] and by \textit{H. Eriksson} and \textit{K. Eriksson} [loc. cit.], respectively. Then the present paper uses the root system to describe inversions and inversion tables for the finite and affine Weyl groups of classical type. The paper also gives a \(\mathbb{Z}\)-permutation description for the minimal left coset representatives of these groups.
