Let \(p\neq \ell\) be two rational primes, \(F\) a local field of residue characteristic \(p\), and \(\overline{{\mathbb F}_\ell}\) an algebraic closure of the prime field in characteristic \(\ell\). In her paper [Invent. Math. 144, 177--223 (2001; Zbl 1031.11068)] the author shows that there is a unique local semisimple Langlands correspondence for \(\mathrm{GL}(n,F)\) over \(\overline{{\mathbb F}_\ell}\) which is compatible with the reduction modulo \(\ell\) of the semisimple Langlands correspondence for \(\mathrm{GL}(n,F)\) over \(\overline{{\mathbb Q}_\ell}\). It is natural to expect that this modular semisimple local Langlands correspondence can be characterized by identities between suitable \(L\)- and \(\varepsilon\)-factors of pairs. This is the content of the paper for the case \(n=2.\) If \(\ell\) does not divide the order \(q-1\) of the residue field of \(F\), then \(\varepsilon\)-factors of pairs over \(\overline{{\mathbb Q}_\ell}\) are integral and can be reduced modulo \(\ell\), giving the \(\varepsilon\)-factors the author is looking for. In the other case, she defines new \(\varepsilon\)-factors which do the job.
