A convergent Blaschke product in the unit disk can be expressed in the form \[ B(z,\{a_{k}\})=\prod_{k=1}^{\infty }\frac{\bar{a}_{k}}{|a_{k}|}\frac{a_{k}-z }{1-\bar{a}_{k}z} \qquad\text{where}\quad \sum_{k=1}^{\infty }(1-|a_{k}|)<\infty. \] Protas proved in the early 70s that if the moduli of the zeros converge to one fast enough then the derivative of the Blaschke product belongs to a corresponding Hardy space. Here, the Hardy space \(H^{p}(D)\) consists of those analytic functions such that \(\displaystyle\sup_{0<r<1}( \frac{1}{2\pi } \int_{0}^{2\pi }|f(re^{i\theta })|^{p} d\theta) ^{1/p}\) is finite. Protas' theorem says that \(B'(z,\{a_{k}\})\in H^{p}\) whenever \(\sum_{k=1}^{\infty }(1-|a_{k}|)^{\alpha }<\infty \) and \(p\in (0,1-\alpha ]\) for \(\alpha \in (0,1/2)\). The purpose of the present paper is to obtain explicit bounds on the growth of the means \[ I(r)=\frac{1}{2\pi } \int_{0}^{2\pi }|B'(z,\{a_{k}\})(re^{i\theta })|^{p} d\theta \] as \( r\to 1^{-}\) when \(p>1-\alpha \). The main theorem states that if \( \sum_{k=1}^{\infty }(1-|a_{k}|)^{\alpha }<\infty \) where \(\alpha \in (0,1/2)\) then \(I(r)\leq \varepsilon (r)/(1-r)^{p+\alpha -1}\) where \(\varepsilon (r)\to 0\) as \(r\to 1^{-}\). This result is extended as well to the case \(p>1\). The author also shows by means of specific examples that the bounds on growth are sharp in the sense that one cannot specify any factor \(\varepsilon (r)\to 0\) independent of the Blaschke product.
