A method is presented for computing correlation functions of twist operators arising from orbifolds \(M^N/S_N\) (with \(S_N\) the symmetric group of order \(N!\)) within the framework of two-dimensional bosonic conformal field theory (CFT), where \(M\) may be an arbitrary manifold. Even though the CFT is defined on a sphere, the correlators can be expressed in terms of partition functions on a Riemann surface of finite genus \(g\). For large \(N\), the expansion with respect to \(g\) coincides with a \(1/N\) expansion. The authors provide an explicit expression for the contribution to the 3-point function coming from the sphere, while for the 4-point function they discuss but one example which has \(g=0,1\) contributions. Since the supersymmetric case is left out here, it seems desirable to include and compare it with the dual superstring theory.
