It is proved that the principle of reduction is invariant under transformations of couplings and masses which change the scheme of renormalization. Scheme changing transformations are discussed with the aim of removing gauge and mass parameters in the reduction equations. Necessary and sufficient conditions for asymptotic freedom in models with several couplings are stated.
