The authors consider the spherically symmetric motion of a compressible viscous, isentropic fluid in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) \((n= 2,3)\) which is described by the system of equations in Eulerian coordinates: \[ \begin{aligned} & \rho_t+ (\rho u)_x+ {m\rho u\over x}= 0,\\ & (\rho u)_t+ [\rho u^2+ P(\rho)]_x+ {m\rho u^2\over x}= \mu u_{xx}+\mu m\Biggl[{u\over x}\Biggr]_x\end{aligned}\tag{1} \] together with initial and boundary conditions, where \(m= n-1\), \(P(\rho)= a\rho^\gamma\), \(\gamma\geq 1\). The authors prove the global existence of weak solutions to the Cauchy problem for (1). To this end they use both reduction to 1D case and a new (multidimensional) property induced by the viscous flux.
