A generalization is presented of the existence results obtained by \textit{R. J. Aumann} and \textit{M. Perles} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 11, 488-503 (1965; Zbl 0137.39201)] and \textit{J. C. Cox} and \textit{C. Huang} [J. Math. Econ. 20, 465-487 (1991; Zbl 0734.90009)] for an optimal consumption problem. In addition a general optimality principle is presented.
