The author considers the following problem. Let \(D\) be a simply-connected domain in the \(z\)-plane containing the origin with inner conformal radius \(R(D,0)=1\) for this point. Let \(\Delta_r= \{z\mid |z|<r\}\), \(r>0\). Let \(D_r\) be the component of \(D\cap\Delta_r\) containing \(z=0\). Find the domains \(D\) such that the inner conformal radius of \(D_r\) for the origin is minimal (meaningful only for \(r>{1\over 4})\). The result is that the minimum is attained uniquely for rotations of the Koebe domain. The method is to consider first the case of bounded domains, a variational formula for inner conformal radius and an inequality for integral means of the derivative of univalent functions. The author considers several equivalent formulations of the problem and some extensions, in particular to the case of doubly-connected domains.
