The authors consider the inverse problem to find simultaneously a function \(u: [O,T]\to E\) (with the values in a Banach space \(E\)) and an element \(p\in E\) satisfying the differential equation \(u'(t) = Au(t) + p\), \(0\leq t\leq T\), and the boundary conditions \(u(0)=u_0\), \(u(T)=u_1\), where a linear closed operator \(A\) and \(u_0, u_1\in D(A)\) are given. The authors prove that the solution to the inverse problem is unique (if it exists) iff the set of numbers \(2\pi k i /T\), \(k=\pm 1, \pm 2,\dots\) does not contain any eigenvalue of \(A\). The proof does not use any assumption on the well-posedness of the related Cauchy problem \(u'(t) = Au(t)\), \(0\leq t\leq T\), \(u(0)=u_0\in D(A)\).
