The authors consider a linear pursuit problem in the plane where the pursuer imperfectly measures the relevant data about the evader, and analyse this problem through an auxiliary differential game where the state is the set of all the evader's phase states consistent with measurements on hand. For the derived game, a `reasonable' (p. 512, l.5) strategy of the pursuer is constructed. A nonlinear pursuit problem is then dealt with -- that of a space vehicle homing toward a dangerous space object. The problem is linearized in such a way not to facilitate homing; and the aforementioned strategy is applied to the corresponding derived game. The effectiveness of the strategy and method are tested by numerical simulations.
