The author deals with a class of abstract functional-differential equations of the type \[ Du_t = T(t-a) D\varphi + \int_a^t T(t-s)F(s,u_s) ds, \quad t\geq a, \] with the initial condition \(u_a = \varphi \in C\), where \(D:C \to X\) is a bounded linear operator of the form \(D\varphi = \varphi(0) - \int_{-r}^0 d\eta(\theta) \varphi(\theta)\) (\(\eta\) is of bounded variation and nonatomic at 0) and \(\{T(t)\}_{t\geq 0}\) is a compact \(C_0\)-semigroup on a Banach space \(X\). Local and global existence results are given under continuity assumptions on \(F\). Moreover, results concerning the uniqueness and continuation of solutions are provided. Finally, it is shown that the solution semiflow \(\{U(t)\}_{t \geq 0}\) is an asymptotic \(\alpha\)-contraction, where \(\alpha\) is the Kuratowski measure of noncompactness.
