This paper continues the study by the author and others of the zeros of ideals in spaces \({\mathcal H}(U)\) of holomorphic functions on open subsets \(U\) of a locally convex space \(E.\) In [North-Holland Math. Studies 34, 563-576 (1979; Zbl 0399.46035)], the author showed that if \(U\) is polynomially convex and the Fréchet space \(E\) has the approximation property, then every ideal in \({\mathcal H}(U)\) without common zeros is dense in \({\mathcal H}(U)\) for the compact-open topology. He also raised the question of whether every proper, finitely-generated ideal in \({\mathcal H}(U)\) has a common zero, if \(U\) is a domain of holomorphy. In this article, he shows that the answer to this question is affirmative in the case that \(U\) is a convex and balanced subset of the original Tsirelson space [\textit{B. Tsirelson}, Funct. Anal. Appl. 8, 138-141 (1974; Zbl 0296.46018))]. The author's arguments include a modification of a classical result of R. Arens on the joint spectrum, together with a characterization of the homomorphisms \(T:{\mathcal H}_b(U) \to C\) in case \(E\) is a reflexive Banach space such that the finite type polynomials on \(E\) are dense in \({\mathcal H}_b(E).\)
