Quantum delocalization of the electric charge (Q5943773)

This paper concerns the question of whether states with a similarity well-localized charge density exist in quantum electrodynamics. The global existence theorems for Maxwell-Klein-Gordon and Maxwell-Dirac theory is used in order to exhibit solutions of the field equations with sharp support properties of the electric current. The paper concludes with a brief discussion of the implications of the main results for the analysis of the superselection structure of theories involving charges of electric type.
