The homogenization properties for some elliptic or parabolic partial differential equations in stationary, ergodic random media are studied with probabilistic techniques. Using the probabilistic representation of the solutions of parabolic and elliptic partial differential equations, constant coefficients are found to approximate, in some suitable sense, highly oscillating coefficients that represent the random media, establishing a central limit theorem for the stochastic process generated by a second-order partial differential operator. The proof uses considerations on the semigroup associated to a divergence-form operator and the theory of Dirichlet forms, so that the only conditions required on the coefficients are nondegeneracy and boundedness.
