The following coupled system of sine-Gordon equations is considered: \[ \partial_t^2y+\alpha\partial_t y-\beta\Delta_xy+\gamma\sin(\delta y)+ky=f, \;\;y\big|_{\partial\Omega}=0 \tag{1} \] in a bounded domain \(\Omega\subset\mathbb R^n\). Here \(y=(y_1,y_2)\) is a two componented unknown vector-valued function, \(\alpha\), \(\gamma\), \(\delta\) and \(k\) are given \(2\times 2\)-matrices, the given matrix \(\beta\) has the form \(\beta:=\text{diag}\{\beta_1,\beta_2\}\), \(\beta_i>0\), \(i=1,2\), and \(f=f(t,x)\) are given external forces. Arguing in a standard way, the authors reprove the well-known result on the unique solvability of problem (1) in the finite time interval \(t\in[0,T]\) in the corresponding energetic space. As an application, the authors also formulate the standard result on the solvability of the quadratic optimal control problems for the control systems described by coupled sine-Gordon systems.
