Complete formulas for the volumes of tubes about curves in a Riemannian manifold (Q5944196)

The paper gives a formula for the volume of a tube of radius \(r\) about a curve in a Riemannian manifold as a power series expansion in \(r\). In Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 44, 215-243 (1982; Zbl 0491.53035)] \textit{A. Gray} and \textit{L. Vanhecke} studied such an expansion and computed explicitly the first three non-zero terms. The present author gives an expression for the coefficient of a general term. Succinct notation is developed to accommodate the increasing complexity of the coefficients, which, as is to be expected, depend on successive covariant derivatives of the curvature.
