[Parts I and II by the same authors in Duke Math. J. 72, 109-150 (1993; Zbl 0807.43002) and J. Lie Theory 5, 1-14 (1995; Zbl 0835.43011), respectively.]NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINELet \(G/K\) be a symmetric space for \(G\) a connected noncompact semisimple Lie group with finite center and \(K\) a maximal compact subgroup. Let \(-L_0\) be the Laplace-Beltrami operator and \(L\) the unique self-adjoint extension of \(L_0\), and \(\{E_\zeta\}\) the spectral resolution of the identity for which \(Lf=\int_b \zeta dE_\zeta f\), where \(b=\langle \rho,\rho \rangle\), \(\rho\) being the half-sum of the positive roots. For \(\theta\) in \([0,1]\) the \(\theta\)-Poisson semigroup is defined by \(P_{\tau, \theta}f= \int_b\exp(-\tau (\zeta- \theta b))^{1/2} dE_\zeta f\) for all \(f\) in \(L^2(G/K)\).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIn this paper the authors consider the operators \(P_{\tau,\theta}\) in the case where \(\theta =1\) and \(\tau\) is complex and \(\text{Re} \tau>0\), and study the behaviour of the \(p,q\) \((1\leq p,q \leq\infty)\) norm of \(P_{\tau, \theta}\). This involves finding explicit formulae for the kernel. This work can be considered an extension of the work by \textit{J.-Ph. Anker} and \textit{L. Ji} [Geom. Funct. Anal. 9, 1035-1091 (1999; Zbl 0942.43005)]. The authors intend to study the case where \(0\leq \theta <1\) in a later paper.
