The paper is a comparative study of 2/1 and 3/2 resonant asteroid motions in the asteroid belt under the Jupiter's influence, aiming at understanding the difference in dynamical behaviour of asteroid in a gap in 2/1 resonance, and in a group in 3/2 resonance. The study starts with the simplest model where Jupiter moves in a circular orbit, and asteroids move in the orbital plane of Jupiter. Then the effects of other perturbations are added to this model. These are connected with the eccentricity of Jupiter's orbit and with the motion in three-dimensional space. A symplectic mapping model is used for both resonances, corresponding to different Jacobi's energy levels or to different values of eccentricities of the exact resonance. The mapping model is based on perturbations from Jupiter only. The difference in the behaviour of asteroids near resonances 2/1 and 3/2 gives information about the evolution of the systems, and allows to explain gaps in the 2/1 resonance and the group in the 3/2 resonance.
