The theory of the third integral [in agreement with \textit{G. Contopoulos}, Z. Astrophys. 49, 273--291 (1960; Zbl 0099.45007)] is applied to a self-consistent galactic model generated by the collapse of a \(N\)-body system. This system is represented by an axisymmetric potential \(V(R,z)\) plus a small perturbation \(V_1(R, \varphi,z)\). The third integral \(I(R,z,\dot R,\dot z)/g_{or}= 1,2256 (R^2+z^2+\dot R^2 +\dot z^2)+ \dots\) is calculated for potential \(V\) in the general non-resonant case, and for various resonant cases. In the non-resonant case the truncated third integral \(I_n\) is conserved better as \(n\) increases up to \(n=20\), but for \(n>20\) its conservation becomes worse. In the main resonant case \((1:1\) resonance) the best results are obtained for \(n=10\). The details of the whole process are given in 20 figures.
