A boundary control system in factor form which is introduced by the authors in their previous paper [Dyn. Contin. Discrete Impulsive Syst. 6, No. 1, 87-119 (1999; Zbl 0932.93009)] is given by the equations \(\dot{x}(t)=A[x(t)+du(t)],\;y(t)=c^\sharp x(t)\), where for all \(t\in [0,\infty)\) the state \(x(t)\) belongs to a Hilbert space \(H\), the operator \(A\) with the domain \(D(A)\) generates a linear exponentially stable \(C_0\)-semigroup \(\{ S(t)\}_{t\geq 0}\) on \(H,\;d\in H\) is a factor control vector, \(u\in L^2(0,\infty)\) is a scalar control function, \(y\) is a scalar output defined by an \(A\)-bounded linear observation functional \(c^\sharp\) with \(D(A)\subset D(c^\sharp)\), which can be represented as \(c^\sharp x=\langle Ax,h\rangle\) for \(x\in D(A)\) and some \(h\in H\). Such a functional \(c^\sharp\) is called admissible if there exists \(\gamma >0\) such that \(\int_0^\infty |c^\sharp S(t)x_0|^2 dt\leq\gamma\|x_0\|_H^2\;\;\forall x_0\in D(A)\). In the paper under review, the existence and properties of the transfer function and the input-output map are established under assumptions on the admissibility of \(c^\sharp\) and certain compatibility conditions on \(c^\sharp\) and \(d\). It is stressed that the \(H^\infty\) assumption on the transfer function appears in the description of the input-output map, and further research is needed to check whether this assumption is redundant. Two examples of transmission lines, which illustrate an application of the results, are presented. It is shown that boundary control systems in factor form are a particular case of regular Salamon-Weiss abstract linear systems as in the paper of \textit{G. Weiss} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 342, No. 2, 827-854 (1994; Zbl 0798.93036)].
