The problem on the nonexistence of periodic solutions for autonomous ordinary differential equations has been studied by many authors, starting with Bendixson and Dulac for the planar case, and it has various extensions on higher-dimensional systems. In this paper, an extension of a different nature is studied, namely the nonexistence of compact invariant manifolds of dimension \(k\), where \(1 \leq k \leq n\), \(n\) is the dimension of the system. The manifolds have to be Lipschitz boundaries of compact orientable \(k+1\)-dimensional manifolds. Every \(k\)-tori (and therefore quasiperiodic motion) which is such a Lipschitz boundary is therefore ruled out by the main theorem. The author presents his result in three different settings: mappings, flows and discretizations of flows. He also gives a connection to cobordism theory.
