The main object of the paper under review is a finite dimensional central division algebra \(D\) over a field \(L=k(x,y)\) where \(k\) is an algebraically closed field of characteristic different from 2. Assuming that the exponent of \(D\) is prime to the characteristic of \(k\) and \(D\) only ramifies along the hyperelliptic curve \(X\) given in the projective plane by the equation \(y^2z^{2g-1}-(x-e_1z)(x-e_2z)\cdots(x-e_{2g+1}z)=0\), where \(e_1,e_2,\dots,e_{2g+1}\) are distinct and \(g\geq 1\), the author proves that \(D\) is cyclic. This generalizes a result of \textit{M.~Van den Bergh} [Algèbre non commutative, groupes quantiques et invariants, Reims 1995, Sémin. Congr. 2, 43-53 (1995; Zbl 0891.16012)]. The proof is based on the localization complex in K-theory (Gersten-Quillen). The symbol giving the cyclic algebra is presented in explicit form in terms of the ramification data.
