Let \(M\) be a topological space, \(E\) be a Banach space of bounded continuous functions from \(M\) to \(\mathbb{R}\) and \(r\) be a positive integer. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEUnder suitable axioms for these data, the authors define for every finite dimensional \(C^k\)-manifold \(N\) \((k\geq r+1)\), a subset \({\mathfrak M}(M,N)\) of continuous maps from \(M\) to \(N\) and a \(C^{k-r}\)-differentiable structure on it, with \({\mathfrak M}(M,\mathbb{R}) =E\).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThey also give a similar definition when \(E\) is a space of continuous functions vanishing at infinity. They make explicit an example of such a construction which is useful for some variational problems.
