Let \(G\) be a finite group, \(K\) a field of characteristic \(p\), and \(V\) a \(KG\)-module. If \(p\) does not divide the order of \(G\), then the Hilbert series \(H(K[V]^G,t)\) of the invariant ring \(K[V]^G\) is given by Molien's formula. In this paper, the authors find a replacement of Molien's formula when the order of \(G\) is divisible by \(p\), but not by \(p^2\). The case \(G\simeq P\rtimes H\) is first discussed, where \(P\) has order \(p\) and \(H\) has order coprime to \(p\). The representation ring of \(KG\) and the species are determined, formulas for the evaluation of the species at the sigma-series are found, and \(\mathbb{C}\)-linear combinations of the species are constructed, giving the multiplicity of an indecomposable summand and the dimension of the invariant subspace. These results are extended to general \(G\) by using the Green correspondence. The methods developed here are then used to calculate the Hilbert series of the cohomology modules \(H^i(G,K[V])\) and the depth of \(K[V]^G\) without computing any invariants.
