As is well known the Bruck-Reilly semigroups \(S=BR(G,\theta)\) (where \(G\) is a group and \(\theta\) an endomorphism of \(G\)) characterize the bisimple inverse semigroups whose semilattice of idempotents is an infinite descending chain. The main result is that \(S\) is finitely presented if and only if \(G\) has a presentation of the form \(\langle A\mid R\rangle\) where \(A\) is finite and \(R\) is a union of pairs of words of sets of the form \(\overline R\theta^i\) (\(i=0,1,2,\dots\)) for some finite set of relations \(\overline R\). It is also shown that \(S\) is finitely presented as an inverse monoid if and only if it is likewise as an ordinary monoid.
