The authors investigate a well-known class of ordinary differential equations: \(u''+u'+f(u)=0\). They assume that \(f\in C^1(\mathbb{R})\), \(f(0)=0\), \(f(u)>0\) otherwise, and \(f(u)=o(|u|)\) as \(u\to 0\). They assume that there exists a nontrivial classical global solution and prove several of its properties. Then they show that there exists a unique maximal negative global solution \(u\in C^2(0,\infty)\) and a corresponding maximal solution \(u_+\in C^2(0,\infty)\). They prove that if \(D\) is an unbounded domain enclosed between these solutions, then the measure of \(D\) is bounded. Thus, these global solutions must eventually be very close to each other.
