Let \(K\) be an arbitrary field and let \(R\) be a finite dimensional \(K\)-algebra. It is shown in the paper that if \(L\) is a finite separable field extension of \(K\), then \(R\) is generically tame in the sense of Crawley-Boevey if and only if the algebra \(R^{(L)}=R\otimes L\) is generically tame. Moreover, if \(K\) is an infinite perfect field, \(L\) is an algebraic closure of \(K\) and the algebra \(R\) is generically tame then also the algebra \(R^{(L)}\) is generically tame.
