Using a mixed variational formulation, the authors develop a consistent finite deformation beam theory. The shearing deformation as well as warping displacements of arbitrary cross-section of space-curved beam are considered. In the frame of the three-dimensional continuum theory the authors derive the model equations and, using strain and stress measures proposed herein, study a strain energy function which is invariant under a rigid-body motion. The formulation is shown to be objective.
