The author studies the abstract semilinear evolution equation with a fractional derivative memory term \[ \begin{align*}{ x'(t) + Ax(t) &= F\left(t,x(t),\int_0^t (t-s)^{-\beta}e^{-\gamma(t-s)} f(s,x(s))ds\right),\ t \ge 0, \cr x(0) &= x_0 \in X.}\end{align*} \] Here \(A\) is the generator of a \(C_0\) semigroup in the Banach space \(X\), \(0 < \beta < 1\), \(\gamma > 0\), the growth rate of \(F\) with respect to its last two arguments is at most linear, uniformly in \(t\) on bounded intervals, and \(f\) satisfies a similar but more complicated growth condition. First a result is given on the existence of a solution of this equation on a finite time interval, based on compactness and a priory estimates. Then exponential decay of the solutions is established under some additional assumptions, one of which is that the semigroup generated by \(A\) is analytic and exponentially decaying.
