In their first main result, the authors establish, with a self-contained proof, a general convex-Lipschitz inequality, that implies, as corollaries, the mean-value theorem by Clarke and Ledyaev, and the non-smooth sandwich theorem by Lewis and Ralph. In their second main result, using variational methods, they provide an affirmative answer to some open questions on the existence of common subgradients for a finite family of Lipschitz functions at a point where they all agree. They prove also infinite dimensional and non-compact extensions, and point out some open problems.
