Infinite dimensional irreducible Lie algebras containing transformations of finite rank (Q5947236)

The author proves that every irreducible Lie subalgebra of \(\mathfrak{gl}(V)\), where \(V\) is an infinite-dimensional vector space over a field of characteristic zero, containing a non-zero finitary transformation (i.e. a transformation whose image is finite dimensional) is a semi-direct product of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra and a ``dense'' Lie subalgebra of \(\mathfrak{gl}(W)\) for some vector space \(W\).
