The authors study estimates for the number of resonances, for sandwiched cut-off resolvents, and for the scattering determinant in case of black box perturbations. The study is based on semiclassical estimates and on some general principles of complex function theory. Applications for local trace formulae and for Breit-Wigner formulae are given. As a special case bottle perturbations are discussed in some detail.
