The authors implement the idea of how to make compatible the boundary conditions and the gauge fixing condition for complex general relativity written in terms of Ashtekar variables. Their work is based on the approach given in the paper by \textit{M. Henneaux}, \textit{C. Teitelboim} and \textit{J. D. Vergara} [Nucl. Phys. B 387, 391-418 (1991)]. They find that at first order in the gauge parameters, the Hamiltonian action is fully gauge invariant under the gauge symmetry generated by the first class constraints in the case when space time is topologically the product of a closed surface and the real line. In this situation, they show that the constraints which are linear in the momenta do not contribute to the boundary terms.
