In this paper an interesting analog of the F. and M. Riesz theorem is obtained. After introducing the notion of the \(\varepsilon\)-asymmetric set - the one for each point of which \(x\) the ball with center \(-x\) and radius \(\varepsilon|x|\) does not intersect the set - the main result reads as follows: If the Fourier transform of a finite measure (defined on either \(\mathbf R^n\) or \(\mathbf T^n\)) is supported on an \(\varepsilon\)-asymmetric set, then this measure is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. This result as well as its consequences are new even in the one-dimensional case. The proof is based on an estimate of Fourier multipliers interesting in its own right.
