The ground state of an atom with N electrons is considered. It is shown that, for the distances at which the innermost electrons feel the force of the nucleus very strongly compared to the forces due to the other electrons, the one-particle density matrix converges to the corresponding hydrogenic one-particle density matrix. This is the further development of the previous results \textit{A. Iantchenko, E. H. Lieb} and \textit{H. Siedentop} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 472, 177-195 (1996; Zbl 0846.35111)] concerning the ground-state density.
