The authors give a survey of FH-algebras over a commutative ring \(k\), which are Hopf algebras and simultaneously Frobenius extensions of the base ring. Many of the results are generalizations of facts known for special ground rings like fields, local rings, etc. The authors give a number of new proofs, and some new theorems. They study in particular the role of the Nakayama automorphism, the order of group like elements, the order of the antipode, a formula for \(S^4\), the \(\beta\)-Frobenius property of an extension of FH-algebras. They show that the Drinfel'd double of an FH-algebra is a unimodular FH-algebra.
